“Out of Curiosity”
It all started “out of curiosity”… I had just started a new chapter of my life during the summer of 2018. With a new apartment and all the time in the world, just the thought of what was or could be possible in what was to come had me filled with excitement!
Although, with all this free time I had no idea what to do with myself… So, rather than watch the snails on the retaining wall outside of my new home and learn their mating habits, I knew there had to be something more entertaining that I could do…
It’s moments like those serendipitous synchronicities that are some of my favorites!
While I was randomly looking through YouTube videos, I came across an artist who had “A Lot” of followers. Her artwork consisted mainly of Acrylic Paint Pouring. My first impression after seeing the process of just pouring a bunch of colors onto a canvas was the ignorant thought, “How the hell is this art?” I was confused, to say the least…
I didn’t give the art or the process much more thought until I noticed that my neighbor had a couple of these paintings in her window… (Coincident?? Yeah, nothing in this universe happens without a reason.) So, I thought to myself, whoa… okay. Let’s, look into this a bit more… So, I asked my neighbor about them. I had mentioned what I saw and YouTube and she invited me over for coffee for I guess what you can call my first “Art Lesson”.
She walked me through the process, and I was HOOKED!! I ran with it! I watched everything I could, and immediately bought the starter paints, canvases, and whatever I needed. I finally, for the first time in my adult life… had a Hobby, and boy was I excited! So, I experimented with what was possible and how far I could go with my hobby! I made a lot of mistakes, but I enjoyed every minute of it!! I was happy to share my newfound interest with everyone I could!
Not too long after that, I was asked if I was able to create a painting on a much larger canvas and then donate it for an auction put together to benefit the local homeless community. The proceeds of which would then go to helping the homeless in my area. I said sure, I can do that, without much thought into the work or after the fact. During the conversation prior to creating the piece, it was mentioned how we are living in very stark times, so I incorporated the colors black and white, which I had earlier called my “Stark Reality Series”. Then it was suggested that I add some color to symbolize hope, and brightness for the future.” That piece started my Hope series… One of my favorite techniques to do. Once I had posted the image on Facebook I immediately received a message asking me how much I wanted for it… The painting never made it to auction…
Soon after, friends around me wanted a custom art piece, not only that, they showed interest in the artwork I had previously done! I was overwhelmed with emotions, I was so grateful, excited, and shocked!! I was new to living on a shoestring budget, receiving only Social Security payments, and here I was faced with an opportunity to actually make some sort of an income on the side. I wasn’t sure what to do… I needed help.
So, after a couple of years of talking, somewhat planning, promises made with no real action… I was finally somewhat guided to create a platform on which I am able to display my artwork and give you the opportunity to not only browse the work I’ve done in the past, I wanted to give you the opportunity to purchase those pieces, or any I have done recently. Any of the pieces displayed here are for sale.
I wanted to give you the option of purchasing the real physical canvas.
Or
Give you the opportunity of purchasing a custom painting!
Here then is my website, complete with both my current works and older pieces. Enjoy!!
If any of them interest you or you are considering a commission, please contact me by phone or email and we can discuss it further. I will quote a price at that time.
